Skiing
Skiing is a natural continuation of the alpine season and is fun! It's a great way to journey through the mountains, keep fit and enjoy a bit of adventure along the way. Northern Mountain Sport operate throughout the Alps from December till May and offer a full program to suit all abilities: off piste guiding, avalanche training courses and a full ski touring season including Mont Blanc & Monte Rosa ascents.
A fantastic week of ski touring, but with a lot more added by Andy Perkins and Tim Blakemore. Things like getting us to work as a team in the most realistic transceiver test I have ever encountered; and showing us some basic techniques for crevasse rescue (AND getting us all to enjoy trying these at one of the mountain huttes) - for me (with limited experience) these added enormously to the week. They gauged what was needed by the group to build for the future as well as giving us a really exciting weeks skiiing.
The trip was one of the best weeks of my life! I know we were all extremely grateful to be on a flexible and expertly crafted itinerary between Chamonix and Zermatt, and none of us will forget it in a long time. Thanks for being an inspirational guide and a good friend throughout.
By creating a custom itinerary based on excellent knowledge and experience of the Swiss, French and Italian glacial Alpine terrain Tim made our Haute Route expedition a life changing trip. Knowing that the group was comprised of skiers rather than climbers or true mountaineers, Tim devised a route taking in the classic days, but maximising our downhill powder turns! All the hut accommodation was regimentally organised and even when forced to adapt due to weather conditions, alternative options were sourced and booked immediately. Every group decision, whether it concerned avalanche or crevasse danger, equipment strategy, route planning or risk assessment was openly and honestly discussed logically, which in addition to ensuring a stress free atmosphere increased the group’s experience and mountaineering navigational skill level. The group often felt that Tim’s decisions on skinning routes, navigation, and safety set a precedent for any other guides in the area; we often covered terrain more efficiently than other groups and always felt secure in the high alpine environment.This has to be the best way to experience world class glacial terrain, where the sheer scale of the mountains inspire reverence and awe.Thanks and see you next season.

I just thought I should drop you a line to say how much I and my friends enjoyed our couple of days skiing with you in March in Chamonix. Your guiding was excellent and your help was most reassuring, and would encourage me to try more off piste and even may be more adventurous things with your expert assistance. I hope to be able to ski with you again soon.
