Northern Mountain Sport (Ltd) is directed by Tim Blakemore. Since his teens Tim has been clinging to mountainsides and sliding down them in pursuit of fun and adventure. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to Northern Mountain Sport gained throughout the world.
Tim has a varied background which has taken him to most continents on earth and he continues to travel widely. He has worked for the British Antarctic Survey, Plas y Brenin, Outward Bound and was a former Deputy Head of Dukeshouse Wood Centre. In the UK Tim acts as a Technical Advisor to many organisations and continues to train and assess candidates for all the MLTE awards. He has been published in various magazines and journals including 'Summit' and 'Scottish Mountaineer'. He currently delivers the BMC's Winter Safety Lectures in England and Wales.
Tim is an IFMGA Mountain Guide and holds the Mountain Instructor Certificate (MIC). He's climbed many of the Alpine North Faces (mostly with a slow and heavy approach), too many Scottish winter routes to remember to grade VIII, and still enjoys struggling on rock climbs in the UK. Skiing is also a passion and he enjoys touring in wilder, quieter areas.
A committed environmentalist, he puts his money where his mouth his and has been a member of 1% for the planet since 2007. 2010/11's donation went here.
He is father to Michael who is growing older considerably faster than his dad.
Northern Mountain Sport is also lucky enough to have a wealth of talent to choose from amongst friends and colleagues in the British Mountain Guides. In particular Rob Jarvis of High Mountain Guides is a well liked, talented Instructor and Guide (with a great website!) who shares our client centred philosophy.
The vast majority of our work is with small private groups and individuals. We specialize in custom, bespoke trips and we won't pair unknown people together. We believe that your time is important and strive to maximise your experience in the mountains.
Tim is a guide of integrity and fun, with a sense of adventure balanced with care. He pushed us to our limits for unforgettable memories and ski pleasure. I always had absolute confidence in Tim’s judgement, somehow taking us to the edge, but knowing our limits, and then delivering thrilling runs and great snow, making all the effort worthwhile.
